THE FOLD

Joyce Park is not the prettiest or the smartest or the most ambitious; she leaves that to her older sister, Helen. Joyce's only true goal is for John Ford Kang to fall in love with her. There’s only one problem. John thinks she is the ugliest girl in school.

When Joyce's plastic surgery crazed aunt, Gomo, comes into some lottery money and decides to give everyone in the family special gifts, Joyce is offered a chance of a lifetime. Gomo will pay for the plastic surgery to create a double fold in Joyce’s eyelids making her eyes appear more defined and wider or as Helen argues, more “western”. Joyce embarks on a wild adventure with her best friend, Gina, trying to decide whether to accept Gomo’s gift and along the way discovers some hard truths about herself and her family.
